Summer Solstice
The most daylight, the beginning of summer. Waiting for the hours to build to this since December’s shortest day, we’ve considered each day a bit more than the one before.
What does this longest day represent to you? After all, those of us in places like Iowa can just turn on a light to have illumination anytime we desire. So why even mention summer solstice?

Physically, I think my body responds, waking up earlier as the east window lets in the light. But symbolically, this long-lighted date on the calendar represents to me, a fullness, a fruitfulness, holder of all that is good and complete. I can see it in my mind’s eye, feel it inside, the surge of abundance in possibilities for life itself. Summer solstice invites this prayer.

We need a day to hold us. When so much is heartbreaking. So much is war-torn and ripped. So much is full of unhealthy ego, battles, self-righteousness, self-ish ways, uncaring acts, overwhelming concerns.
We need a day like today. To swell up in inspiration to join a longer light. To live like we can make a difference in the rippling waves of energy that connect humanity, one to another and to all of nature.
